Gem Sound PA-940 2-channel professional power amplifier for sale in Eustis, Florida

$50

Hello,
Up for sale is a Gem Sound PA-940 professional power amp.
I have tested this amp thoroughly and it produces more power than my 100 watt 8 ohm load bank can handle, so I know it can produce at least 100 watts per channel both channels simultaneously driven. The 10 kHz square wave response looks great into 8 ohms and is symmetrical between channels.
This amp was also tested at low to reasonable levels on a pair of large Acoustat 2+2 electrostatic home speakers (not an easy load at all!) and surprisingly did very well from the midrange on up. Most would find it hard to believe on this Taiwanese OEM amp, but I actually found the highs to be very nice on this amp compared to several other well-respected pro and consumer power amps we compared it with that day. I truly think that the weakest aspect of this design is the small power supply filter capacitors. One could easily install larger contemporary caps in this design and have a nice amp.
I have repainted the faceplate as it was pretty dinged up when I got it. I have also cleaned out the interior and the fan. The fan is now disconnected however, as I doubt it is very much needed in this convection cooled, external heat sink design, for reasonable use. You can easily reconnect it if you like. Someone replaced one of the volume pots in the past and this explains the longer shaft on the left pot. The knobs are missing.
Anyway, this is a decent 33 pound 2-channel class A-B amp and I do have the schematic for it. It comes with a good size transformer and it would make a very nice high frequency amp for pro or home use in my opinion. It would also be a good amp for full-range home use with medium efficiency speakers.
Specs are:
150 watts RMS per channel into 8 ohms.
.8%THD at full power
Frequency response 20-20kHz +0dB -.5dB
Rated safe load 8-16 ohm
Best wishes, Professor Bizzt
